Hi, I’m J.J. aka Jessica J. Johnston. I like to paint. I especially like to paint custom pet portraits for people.
The basics: I use Acrylic paint in my paintings. I paint my portraits from photographs.
My paintings range anywhere from $150 & up, depending on size & time it takes to complete the work. You can use my online form to get a more precise estimate. A percentage of each painting is donated to an animal rescue organization (see FAQ for more on this.)
A little more about me: Around the age of 12, I began teaching myself how to paint. I’d received a set of oil paints for Christmas that year. After trying my first go on sketch book paper, I realized I had no idea what I was doing. Luckily the internet was new & still in it’s infancy to a degree, but I was able to find enough information online and in books to get the hang of it. I painted for several years until about the age of 16, when I took an extended hiatus (for the most part.) I have always drawn & sketched, and I also have a deep love for collage art. Refinishing old furniture and painting birdhouses became a new hobby for me several years ago as well.
In May of 2014, I began painting seriously again. I guess you could say the rest is history: I fell in love with painting all over again. Now at the age of 34, I have extensive experience and work to improve my style and techniques almost daily. A completely obsessed dog lover, I honed in on my skills painting portraits of my basset hound, Moose. After posting them on social media, I was stunned by the amazing feedback I got from friends & acquaintances. After getting several requests for custom pet portraits, I decided to begin selling them online.
By trade, I work full-time as a web designer and developer. If you’re looking for examples of my graphic & web design work, you can see my digital portfolio at jessicajjohnston.com.
